You need a provisional licence before you can learn to drive. You can apply via a form from the post office. You can also do it online.
Choosing an instructor can be difficult.
Prices vary a great deal. But don’t be fooled into thinking you get what you pay for though. It’s not always the case. All instructors are tested by the DVSA. You should get just as good instruction from an independant driving instructor as you would from one from a large company.
IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY WITH YOUR INSTRUCTOR FOR WHATEVER REASON....... CHANGE TO SOMEONE ELSE.
The amount of lessons you require can vary from person to person. The DVSA state the average amount is 48 lessons with 22 hours practise. However this is an average amount. You may need more you may well need less.
I charge £28 for a full hour of driving. If you pay for each lesson separately. Discounts are available if you pay for lessons in advance. Again be aware, some driving schools will say your lesson is an hour or 2 hours but in the early stages you may well be driven to a quieter area, so your hour or 2 hour slot could end up with you driving the car for alot less time. You get a full hour with me !!
You need to pass you theory test before you can book your practical, so its as well to get this done as soon as possible.
Make sure you use the gov.uk site as you can be charged for booking a test by some companies.
